Formed in 1981, the band achieved mainstream success on Elektra Records with albums such as In My Tribe (1987), Blind Man's Zoo (1989) and Our Time in Eden (1992). Original lead singer Natalie Merchant left in 1993 for a solo career; the group continued with Mary Ramsey and has remained active touring and releasing music since.
