After an astonishing 60-year career in music, Richie Furay continues to build on a legacy that helped shape American rock and Country Rock. From pivotal roles in Buffalo Springfield, Poco, and the Souther-Hillman-Furay Band to induction into both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Colorado Music Hall of Fame, Furay’s influence spans generations.
His newest album, In The Country, brings him back to one of his earliest musical loves. Recorded with Grammy-winning producer and engineer Val Garay, whose credits include Linda Ronstadt, James Taylor, and Kim Carnes, the album features country songs Furay has connected with throughout his life.
Born in Yellow Springs, Ohio, Furay grew up listening to country music with his father before discovering rock & roll and picking up the guitar. His path eventually led him to New York, where he met Stephen Stills. Together with Neil Young, Bruce Palmer, and Dewey Martin, they formed Buffalo Springfield, one of the defining bands of the era.
In 1968, Furay went on to form Poco with Jim Messina, Rusty Young, Randy Meisner, and George Grantham, further establishing his lasting influence on Country Rock.
Decades later, In The Country brings Furay full circle, reconnecting him with the music that first inspired him while reflecting a career built on following his own creative path.
“Rock & roll and country, that’s really what I’m all about,” Furay explains.
